Rottweiler: character, care and predisposition to diseases
Rottweiler
Rottweiler is considered to be one of the oldest breeds in the world, as its origins date back to ancient Rome.
His ancestors, along with the Roman legions, crossed the Alps, guarding prisoners and cattle, until they reached the city of Rottweil in Germany, where these dogs were crossed with local.
This is how the "butcher dog" was created, an indispensable assistant for traders and butchers, who herded cattle and wore a bag with money around his neck.
His awe-inspiring posture and strength were effective in deterring potential robbers.
Today, mainly a guard dog, employed in the police and the army, also used to work on an avalanche, in rescue units and customs services.
It can also be a domestic dog, but not for everyone.

Rottweiler character
- The Rottweiler is first and foremost a brave dog who knows no fear.
- He has strong nerves.
- He is punishable and obedient.
- He is attached to the owner, but is very distrustful towards strangers, which makes him an excellent guard and protection dog.
- If handled inappropriately, it can become dangerous as it tends to be dominant.
- I need an owner with appropriate mental predispositions who will be able to "take control of him".
- It is a very active dog, it needs a lot of exercise to vent excess energy.

Rottweiler grooming
A dog of this breed is rarely a frequent visitor to dog beauty salons, because its coat, apart from standard combing and emergency bathing, does not have any special requirements and is relatively easy to care for.
Rottweiler feeding
As a large breed dog with a massive build, it has a fairly high caloric requirement.
In other words, the Rottweiler just eats a lot, which we must be prepared for, also financially.
Due to the breed predisposition to dysplasia, supplementation is indicated glucosamine and chondroitin, which will improve the functioning of the joints.
Rottweiler disease

Muscular dystrophy
Rottweiler muscular dystrophy is a genetic condition that affects them only males, and symptoms of muscle fiber necrosis in the form of movement disorders are already seen in puppies.
The disease progresses to approx 6 months old and there is no effective treatment for them.Recurrent corneal ulceration
The condition affects both eyes and manifests as damage to the corneal epithelium that does not respond to standard treatment.
It is often accompanied by spasm of the eyelids and lacrimation.
The treatment combines surgical methods with local antibiotic therapy.
Discoloration of the nose mirror
This disease in rottweilers may affect not only the nasal mirror, but also appear in the form of generalized vitiligo spots.
There is a change in the color of the nasal mirror through brown, gray, and finally completely discolored, due to the gradual disappearance of melanocytes.
Acne in rottweiler
Rottweiler acne is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the young dogs.
It is manifested by inflammation of the hair follicles mainly on the chin, which becomes superinfected over time and becomes a bacterial complication.
The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the advancement of the process.
Inflammation of the masticatory muscles
This inflammation is autoimmune and mainly affects young dogs.
The disease is acute and is diagnosed on the basis of clinical symptoms - the dog has problems opening its mouth, yawning, and palpation around the masseter and temporal muscles causes them pain.
It is recurrent and the treatment uses immunosuppressants - glucocorticosteroids or azathioprine.
Hip dysplasia
This disease mainly affects large breed dogs and consists in a mismatch of the structures of the hip joint.
The first symptoms can be noticed already in 2-month-old puppies, while they are most often visible between 6 and 12 months of age.
If the damage to the joint is not significant, it leads to fibrosis of the capsule, and the fullness of the symptoms occurs around 4-5 years of age, as adult canine dysplasia.
Suspicion of dysplasia is associated with difficulties in getting up and moving, and in puppies the so-called. rabbit jumping.
In young animals, approx 4 - 6 months prophylactic X-ray of the hips is performed under sedation, because they still have the option of surgical treatment.
In older dogs, the main treatment is analgesic treatment, or stem cell therapies that are entering the Polish market, or IRAP.
Elbow dysplasia
Dysplasia in a dog is a developmental disorder consisting in the incorrect development of structures that make up the elbow joint.
It consists of 4 sub-units:
- unattached ulnar appendix,
- fragmentation of the medial peak process,
- osteochondrosis of the humerus condyle,
- mismatch of the articular surfaces.
This condition manifests as lameness on one or both of the pectorals in puppies aged 6 - 12 months, reluctance to bend at the elbow and soreness in these joints.
An X-ray image is helpful in making the diagnosis.
Treatment is surgical treatment and most often consists of proximal osteotomy of the ulna.
Urethral sphincter failure
This condition can manifest itself either urinary incontinence (mainly in sterilized bitches, but the Rottweiler has a predilection not related to the hormonal background) or, on the contrary, it stops.
It can also occur in males.
Treatment urethral sphincter insufficiency depending on the cause it is:
- or hormonal (stilbestrol, testosterone),
- or adrenergic (phenylpropanolamine),
- or relaxing the coil (diazepam).
Intestinal bacterial overgrowth
With this disease, we can observe chronic, recurrent diarrhea, appetite disturbances and gasification of the intestines.
These symptoms are the result of an excessive multiplication of bacteria in the intestine as a result of digestive disorders, stagnant content or deficiency IgA.
Then there is:.in. to damage to the intestinal villi, protein loss and malabsorption vitamin B12.
Rottweiler leukoencephalomyelopathy
This disease is caused by the demyelination of nerve fibers in the central nervous system.
It is a rare condition characterized by progressive paresis of all limbs in dogs 18 - 40 months.
Rottweiler neuroaxonal dystrophy
This defect is caused by steroid deposition in the brain and spinal cord tissue.
It consists in the initially occurring incoherence of all limbs, followed by coordination disorders, tremors and nystagmus.
There is no effective treatment. Is it worth choosing a rottweiler??

When planning to buy a rottweiler, we must first of all answer the question, for what purpose we want to have a dog of this particular breed.
Of course, this dog will adapt to being a family dog and living in a tight space, but his element is movement and freedom, so he will feel best at home with a garden that he will be able to defend and guard.
Additionally, keep in mind that not everyone is a suitable owner for a Rottweiler.
You must have certain mental predispositions to be able to dominate a dog.
It is best to buy a puppy so that you can train it from an early age.
It should also be remembered that under the Ordinance of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of April 28, 2003, rottweiler is included in the so-called. list of aggressive breeds and its possession is required special permission.
Therefore, the decision to own a Rottweiler should not be taken lightly, so as not to endanger yourself and others.
