There are various opinions about whether it is worth vaccinating a cat. Meanwhile, veterinarians seem to agree on this topic. Undoubtedly, vaccinations protect our kittens against many diseases caused by viruses and bacteria. However, it is important to know in what period of life vaccinations can be given and to distinguish which vaccinations should be considered compulsory.
The vaccination program should be adapted to the lifestyle of our little dog. This does not mean that cats that live only indoors do not need to be vaccinated. Contrary. We bring many bacteria and viruses home from the court on clothes, shoes, etc. Therefore, there is no doubt that cats that do not go out should also visit a specialist's office, who will decide which vaccines are necessary.
Before administering the vaccine, our purr must be carefully examined. It should be healthy and dewormed. Please note that after the procedure our kitten may be a little lethargic, lack appetite and have a high temperature, but these symptoms are normal and usually do not last very long.
Small kittens up to approx. At 7 weeks of age, they are immune to many different diseases, mainly thanks to colostrum (mother's milk), which contains antibodies that protect them against disease. However, these antibodies disappear quite quickly and then it is necessary to vaccinate our toddler, as recommended by a veterinarian. The main vaccinations at 7-8 weeks are herpes and calicivirus (so-called. catarrh), and panleukopenia (feline typhus). Diseases caused by these viruses are particularly dangerous to the health of the cat and very often lead to death. Vaccinations should be repeated at the age of 12 and 16 weeks, and after a year, repeated every 2-3 years (unless your doctor tells you otherwise).
The two mentioned vaccines are obligatory, the opinions about the rest are divided. The decision as to whether it is worth vaccinating a cat should be left to the doctor and the owner. Such contested vaccines include leukemia, chlamydiosis, mycosis, FCV (calicivirosis), and FIP (infectious peritonitis).
When it comes to vaccination against rabies, the decision about the necessity and frequency of vaccination should be left to the veterinarian, who, after taking into account whether our cat is „an outgoing cat or a domestic cat will arrange a vaccination program for him.
Vaccine prices are varied, most often set individually, depending on the company and the type of vaccine administered, most often they range from PLN 35-50.
Therefore, it is worth protecting the health of our little friend from the first days and not playing „home doctor "go to the veterinarian as soon as possible, who will set up an appropriate vaccination program.
