This can be done by administering dietary supplements in the form of tablets, capsules and drinking liquids.

Disease dachshundDachshund: a predisposition to disease
Discopathy in a dachshund
One of the most common and serious diseases of the dachshund is discopathy, i.e. a disease of the intervertebral disc.
Due to the unusual structure of the body and the presence of short legs, dogs of this breed very quickly (even up to 1 year of age) dehydrate and chuck the nucleus pulp, the mechanical properties of which are impaired.
The altered nucleus pulposus tends to break the fibrous ring, while pouring out into the spinal cord canal, it causes pressure on the spinal cord.
In individuals affected by this pathology, we observe ache, hind limb paralysis With disturbance of deep sensation, paresis which the dog may or may not walk on.
Depending on the occurrence of these symptoms, a five-point scale, from 1 to 5, is adopted.
5 is already associated with the disturbance of deep sensation and involuntary urination.
The occurrence of symptoms also depends on the location of the pathology.
In the presence of changes in the cervical region, there is pain in the neck and, less frequently, paresis of the limbs.
Changes in the thoracic spine are rare, while in the thoracic-lumbar and lumbar spine, they are very common.
Then we deal with paresis and soreness of the spine.
The only possible way to locate and recognize the disease is to take a photo X-ray or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Conservative treatment consists in limiting the animal's movement or putting on a thoracic-cervical corset (in the case of changes in. cervical) for a period of 4 weeks.
It can also be used in therapy painkillers or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Unfortunately, in the absence of improvement, it is recommended Surgical treatment, aimed at removing calcified nucleus pulposus.
Some individuals are obese at first glance or the more barrel-shaped, enlarged outline of the abdomen.
We usually find it to be ordinary obesity.
Nothing could be more wrong.
Dachshunds are a breed predisposed to overactive adrenal cortex that is Cushing's disease.
In sick dogs, the following occurs:
- increased fluid intake,
- increased urination,
- skin and hair changes,
- sagging belly.
In a research Ultrasound enlarged liver and on both sides enlarged adrenal glands.
To be confirmed Cushing's syndrome the low- or high-dose dexamethasone inhibition test and the ACTH stimulation test are used.
Treatment is based on lifetime administration mitotane in the preparation Vetoryl.
Generally the prognosis is good.
Tumors in dachshunds
Cancer problems are rarely seen in dachshunds, but are nevertheless predisposed to mastocytosis.
It is a skin cancer that originates in mast cells.
Most often, this condition, along with the presence of mast cells in the blood, accompanies undifferentiated mast cell tumors (mastocytoma).
Symptoms are related to the involvement of the bone marrow and internal organs.
- itchy skin,
Diagnosis is made on the basis of blood and bone marrow smears and the examination of organ biopsies.
Unfortunately, the palliative treatment used is ineffective and the prognosis is good unfavorable.
Applies here prednisolone, and in the case of small effects, it is additionally administered cytostatics.
Defect of the renal tubules
It occurs in dachshunds congenital defect of the renal tubules, which causes increased excretion of various amino acids, including cystine.
This defect leads to the development of the so-called. cystine urolithiasis, more common in males.
At first, the symptoms are imperceptible.
Only later develops a problem with urination, hematuria, or anuria caused by obstruction of the urethra.
Treatment is based on surgical removal of the stones, the use of potassium citrate to dissolve the stones, and a low protein diet.
